Thank you for your inquiry.

The best use of dreamGuard is to apply it before installation. This will help manage any abrasion that may occur in handling the material during the installation process.

It is practical to apply dreamGuard topcoat with a liquid laminator when coating is done prior to installation. Application with a roller prior to installation will require a large, clean space for the coated material to dry, and such a space is not always available. For this reason, many printers that do not have liquid lamination equipment choose to apply dreamGuard post install, with the understanding that they will have to handle the material carefully.

The application of dreamGuard will not cause wallcovering to shrink.

Carl,
It sounds like you have covered the options available to you. Since you can not slow the machine down by increasing passes, then you are doing what you can by manually unwinding the supply roll.

You may consider using smaller supply rolls, but once again, this will get in the way of efficient production and slow your delivery date.

One final option you may want to consider is to slow the motor on the media advance. Some printers offer this, others do not. I am not certain if this option is available on your machine. Slowing the speed of the media advance will, of course, slow down production, but it may help to manage advance accuracy.

All of the suggestions I had made earlier, along with those in this message, require a certain awareness of your machine's behavior with the media and roll size in use at the desired settings for media advance speed, passes, etc. Much has to do with climbing the learning curve to establish a set of conditions that yield optimum results in your target working conditions.

Unfortunately, there are no automatic settings for manually unwinding the supply roll to manage drag, and, also unfortunately, this is, by and large, the most effective procedure to use when you are locked in to all the other settings.

Please do not hesitate to contact me if you would like to discuss this further.

Ron

Hi ... just a comment from the technical side of the discussion:

The cutters you refer to usually require a printed track or register line that they follow, so the trim will always be perfect with respect to the pattern. This is a good thing, but since some printers may drift a little over a long run of media, the cut edge may be slightly wavy unless the printer is webbed up perfectly. You will not be able to butt seam a pre-cut edge that is wavy. So while this system willl probably do the job, perfection in the edge can depend on the both the accuracy of the cutter as well as media feed tracking on the printer. My suggestion is to test media printed on your printer under your normal conditions and examine the resulting butt seams.

Ron
